🖨️ Flashforge AD5X — Multicolor High-Speed 3D Printer
The AD5X is Flashforge's budget multicolor machine: a CoreXY printer with
a 4-spool Intelligent Filament System (IFS) that handles automatic color
swaps, including flexible TPU 95A straight out of the box. It ships nearly
assembled and is printing within minutes. Aimed at hobbyists, small shops,
and classrooms that want color and speed without a complicated build.
Specs that matter
- Build volume: 8.66" cube (220 × 220 × 220 mm)
- Up to 4 colors via the integrated IFS (single-nozzle swapping — not
blended filament)
- Max speed 600 mm/s; realistic quality speeds run ~200–300 mm/s
- CoreXY, direct-drive, 0.4 mm quick-change nozzle, up to 280°C
- Automatic bed leveling, touchscreen, power-loss resume (Flashforge
states ~99% recovery)
- Open frame (no enclosure included; optional kit or printable), ~72–80 dB
- Street price typically around $400 (check the live price at the link —
it moves)
What it's good for
Fast, colorful prints without the learning curve — figurines, signage,
multi-part models, prototypes you'd otherwise have to paint. The TPU
support is a genuine edge in this price class, and setup is about as
painless as multicolor gets.
The honest catch (the part the brochure skips)
Single-nozzle multicolor means purge waste — plan on roughly 10–40% extra
filament on color-heavy prints, and color changes add real time (a busy
4-color model can take 2–3x a single-color print). The bundled slicer is a
Flashforge fork of OrcaSlicer that's buggy and, annoyingly, won't show you
total purge waste. None of this is a dealbreaker for the target buyer —
and the AD5X actually wastes less than several competitors — but you
should know it going in. That's the trade for affordable color.
